PRAY FOR THE ANNOINTING OF JEHU? SERIOUSLY?

 THE DECEPTION

You may have heard that an increasing number of evangelical pastors and leaders are instructing Christians to pray the annoininting of Jehu would be on the president-elect. While supporting the false precept that we must fight as believers to help God defend Himself from the forces of evil, it might surprise you that this instruction is contrary to the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

WHO WAS JEHU?

In the Bible, Jehu was the tenth king of the northern Kingdom of Israel. His story is in 2 Kings. Most commonly, the verse in 2 Kings 9:20 is quoted where Jehu was driving a chariot toward Jezreel furiously to kill Jezebel, the word crazily if often used. One preacher said he just did crazy things like our president elect.

So, what was Jehu's mission. In 2 Kings 9, the prophet Elisha annointed Jehu king with the purpose of destroying the house of King Ahab (the husband of Jezebel) i.e., KILLING every family member, relative, in-law, associate, servant or soldier that was connected to him. Jehu didn't stop there! After this he KILLED all the prophets, priests and servants of the cult of Baal, which was done through a great amount scheming and trickery. 

After He was used to do what God had directed, 2 Kings 10:31 says "Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord!" He made Israel sin in the same way as the kings he slaughtered!

THE QUESTION

We should be asking, "Is this what God wants for us today?" The Way in the Old Testament of the Bible was KILL YOUR ENEMIES. In the New Testament, Jesus came with new standards of behavior. In Luke 6:27, Jesus instructs us to "Love your enemies and do good to those that hate you." 

So, what has happened to Christians' purpose of being conformed to the image of Christ? How have we come to the point of supporting and praying that the perceived "enemies" of an opposing political party be killed? This is what praying that our president elect receive the annointing of Jehu is about. As spoken of in the Book of Galatians, this is an alternative gospel that CAN destroy our nation!
